Students Voice Concerns That Artificial Intelligence Is Undermining Their Learning Abilities, Research Finds
As per recent investigation, learners are sharing concerns that utilizing artificial intelligence is negatively impacting their capability to learn. A significant number report it makes schoolwork “effortless”, while a portion argue it limits their innovative capacity and stops them from acquiring new skills.
Extensive Use of Artificial Intelligence By Learners
A report examining the utilization of AI in British learning centers revealed that only 2% of learners between the ages of 13 and 18 stated they did not use artificial intelligence for their studies, while the vast majority reported they regularly employed it.
Negative Effect on Abilities
Despite artificial intelligence's popularity, 62% of the learners reported it has had a adverse impact on their skills and progress at their educational institution. A quarter of the respondents concurred that artificial intelligence “enables me to obtain answers with minimal personal effort”.
Another 12% indicated artificial intelligence “restricts my imaginative processes”, while comparable figures said they were less prone to address issues or compose originally.
Sophisticated Awareness By Youth
An expert in AI technology remarked that the investigation was one of the initial to look at how students in the United Kingdom were using AI into their learning.
“What strikes me as remarkable is the depth of the responses,” the specialist commented. “For 60% of students to say they are concerned that AI tools encourage copying rather than doing original work, that’s a very deep understanding of what your schoolwork is meant to help you do, and what the pitfalls and benefits are associated with this technology.”

One research evaluated brain electrical activity during written assignments among learners using advanced AI systems and found: “These results raise concerns about the long-term educational implications of LLM reliance and underscore the need for deeper inquiry into AI’s role in learning.”
Nearly half of the two thousand students polled expressed they were concerned their peers were “covertly employing artificial intelligence” for studies without their teachers being able to identify it.
Desire for Guidance and Favorable Elements
Numerous students reported that they desired more help from instructors for the proper utilization of artificial intelligence and in judging whether its output was trustworthy. A program aimed at assisting teachers with AI education is being launched.

Only 31% indicated they didn’t think AI use had a unfavorable impact on any of their skills. But, the bulk of pupils reported using AI assisted them gain fresh abilities, including 18% who reported it aided them grasp problems, and 15% who reported it assisted them generate “original and superior” thoughts.
