19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and finally splitting with former coach Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is his initial trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hard court after spring of 2023.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 various competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching strategy and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had caused commentators to question if his skill to perform at the top level was finished.

But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, supported by an better service.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, took control to force a decider.

He defended four early chances in a competitive final set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the title with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
