Marnus Labuschagne Dropped from Australian One-Day International Team Against Team India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from Australia's three-match ODI series against India, as in-form Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw receiving a unexpected selection.

Performance Issues Lead to Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the ODI side following managing only a single run in both of his innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a best innings of 47 in his most recent ten ODI innings.

Labuschagne has played 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 ODI runs at an batting average of 34.64, but will now focus on earning a Test recall ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Updates

Labuschagne has shown signs of a improvement in form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw also hit a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a red-ball recall as Australia look for a fix to their batting top-order problems.

Pace Additions and Injury Updates

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after being rested since starring for Australia in the 3-0 Test series sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the build-up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he aims to recover from a spinal issue by the time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Squad Selection Approach and Fixtures

Australia have selected a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 sides after scoring a hundred in the last match against New Zealand to secure a two-nil victory last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be player management through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the cricket season through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from 29 October.
