Following multiple episodes of suspense, schemes and sabotage, The Celebrity Traitors has reached a nail-biting end
Warning: spoilers ahead - This piece discloses details from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Throughout the season, viewers witnessed murders, double-crosses, serious side-eye, and an unforgettable incident that pierced all tension.
Yet on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the inaugural celebrity edition emerged triumphant.
Out of nineteen participants, just a handful remained: Traitors and faithfuls competing for the winnings.
Before long, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the remaining contestants.
Ultimately, comedian Alan Carr emerged as the champion, in a shocking result that broke the internet and made him tearful.
"It's been tearing me apart, my apologies," he exclaimed, revealing to the other players that he'd always been one of the deceivers. "I'm an awful human being."
"You played amazingly," they consoled him. "It's all right."
Online platforms quickly erupted with this development. "The worst deceiver being the best traitor ever," commented a viewer.
"There could not have been a better conclusion," stated a different person, while a third described it as "the television highlight of the year."
His chosen charity, a cancer charity, will receive the entire winnings, with the total amount amounting to eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
The comedian's evolution from comic relief to strategic player was among the most memorable aspects of the season.
However, his victory still shocked viewers surprised, according to entertainment reporters.
"The idea of Alan, of all people, pulling off a masterclass in deception felt about as likely as him keeping a straight face through one of his own punchlines."
On subsequent discussions, fellow players explained the reasons nobody had truly doubted him.
"He might have come down to breakfast in traitor attire and I wouldn't have believed he was deceiving us. His humor distracted me," a player said.
"Most people didn't target him because how does one eliminate someone who is so loveable?" questioned a different contestant.
The winner stated he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the program.
"I'd like to do it again... I don't think it would be successful again!"
The final installment was extended to over an hour on the network. It had a different start than usual, as every celebrity were aware who'd make it at the morning gathering.
Viewers heard some very uplifting, and very un-Traitors-esque music, as we recapped key scenes from every remaining player's experience in the game.
As ever, Alan Carr gave us unforgettable quotes.
"Let's face it, I began the competition a bit of a nervous wreck. I've thrown close allies under the bus, I've murdered beloved figures in plain sight. I'm clearly a better liar and traitor than I believed."
Meanwhile, a different player noted that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than competing with England", while another said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.
In the beginning of the finale, several players seemed to be attempting to become the fashion standout of the competition, replacing an earlier departed style leader.
Carr emerged at breakfast looking like a 1950s US chat show host in a checked maroon suit, later switching into a bejewelled white suit.
However, he got outstyled by another contestant's maroon velvet tuxedo. What a look.
Following this was the challenge, with the remaining contestants getting on board a train named - naturally - The Traitors Express.
The challenge involved ripping up images of eliminated players. Spare a thought for a player who was hit on the head multiple times by the lid of a heavy wooden box.
Soon after, the moment arrived for the roundtable.
Two traitors made a pact beforehand, vowing to support each other. "We've progressed significantly, I'm not going to betray him," said a player, while the other just giggled.
However, one did stick to his promise. But, having slipped unnoticed for most of the game, their partner still got the most votes.
The remaining traitor appeared he was in a world of pain to be the last traitor standing. "Being alone, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm unpredictable, a rudderless ship."
Social media and viewers were equally disappointed.
"I hoped against that player to be banished. A truly loveable traitor," said an observer.
"Your legacy will remain in the show's legacy," posted another user.
However, there remained little opportunity to dwell on their elimination. Before long, the game reached the endgame - which was the moment everyone anticipated.
The last players stood over the ceremonial fire. Meanwhile, the partnership broke down, precisely when it mattered the most, in an absolutely shocking development.
A player was painfully banished - following a surprising decision from their ally, who betrayed them.
"This pains me to be stabbed in the back last minute like that," remarked the ousted contestant. Later, it was revealed that when they message, the betrayed player refers to their former ally as a traitor.
Ultimately, just three players were still competing: the last participants.
A contestant, appearing quite pleased, voted to end the game. The same decision was made by a different player, and it all came down to the third, who did the same - which meant that the traitor was the winner.
For observers, the scene where remaining contestants consoled the winner was "beautiful TV". "I anticipate it could be in the running for outstanding scene at next year's awards," they said.
Happily, the champion soon recovered from his bout of tears, and was able to enjoy his victory.
"What a rollercoaster. I was awful at lying, I had no poker face and here I am a winner," the winner said.
And he even made light of that infamous murder - his best friend during the initial stages - by reaching over the presenter in the final scene and touching her cheek.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The recent episodes of famous people scheming, scheming and sometimes unexpected moments may seem like one big crazy jumbled dream. But it really did occur. And we will miss it.
