The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans imposed by the United States against five Europeans involved in combating digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.

EU Officials Condemn US Action as ‘Coercion’

European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans targeted figures who have been at the heart of campaigns to enact laws regulating US-based technology firms.

“For far too long, European activists have led organised efforts to pressure US companies to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” stated the US secretary of state in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
