Marina Bay Street Circuit

Race weekend includes the race kicking off at 13:00 BST on race day.

Live coverage provided on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and BBC Sport.

FP1 Results Overview

The team's Spanish veteran was fastest beating Scuderia star and Red Bull's Max Verstappen during the opening session for the Singapore Grand Prix.

The British team's title rivals Oscar Piastri and British talent finished the practice in mid-table positions.

Piastri was over two tenths quicker than the Briton.

The experienced Spaniard was a slim margin ahead of the Ferrari driver and 0.276secs clear than the Red Bull star.

Ferrari's seven-time champion was fourth fastest.

Weekend Outlook

It is not expected that the Silverstone-based team will be contenders for pole position.

However, the team are hopeful of a strong showing on a tight circuit that is more suited to their chassis, which runs more competitively when plenty of downforce are called for.

Veteran racer Alonso is also renowned as a Singapore specialist, and usually excels on the Marina Bay street track.

But he was almost certainly running reduced weight or a increased power than his rivals, or both, to post the fastest lap.

Team Updates

Fellow driver Canadian racer was almost two seconds behind in 18th place.

The Canadian had problems with his driving position at the start and was also evaluating test items.

The first session in Marina Bay is not reflective of conditions under lights as it is run in daylight in the daytime, while qualifying and the main event are held after dark.

Championship Standings

Piastri is ahead of Norris by a quarter-century with remaining rounds to go entering the weekend in the Lion City.

The Woking-based team are in position to clinch the constructors' championship on the weekend.

Sole scenario they can miss out in this race is if Mercedes outscore them by over thirty or the Scuderia achieve that by a similar margin.

Competitor Outlook

The energy drink brand's team are optimistic of a good performance after recent successes in the previous rounds leading into this event.

It was a relief when drizzle occurring ahead of FP1 abated by the point the machines emerged on a circuit that had remained dry.

Team consultant the Austrian said ahead of practice that they needed a clear session to make a comprehensive start on understanding their chassis settings for the Grand Prix.
